Custom App Spotlight: All Stars Connected Community – Transforming the lives of youth and their families in poor communities
All Stars Project is a national nonprofit founded in 1981 in New York City, that helps inner-city youth and their families create success in their lives by using the developmental power of performance, in partnership with caring adults.
The All Stars Project Development School for Youth (DSY) is a program that trains young people ages 16 to 21 how to perform as professionals and partners them with business leaders that provide paid summer internships at their companies. Some of the DSY partners in the program include JP Morgan Chase, Investors Bank, American International Group, PSEG, Viacom, and MetLife to name a few.
The AppPresser Custom App Development Team built a mobile app for DSY alumni, and a WordPress website for App Administrators and All Stars Project Partner Sponsors to use to easily post and manage new job opportunities. Admins and partners can also search DSY alumni that match specific opportunity preferences.
When DSY program partners post new job opportunities for their companies, DSY alumni that have the Connected Community mobile app installed on their iOS or Android devices receive push notifications about those new job opportunities if their alert preferences match the job description. The DSY alumni can then go apply for that job if they are interested.
Segmented Push Notifications
When DSY alumni allow the All Stars Connected Community mobile app to send them push notifications they can receive alerts on their mobile devices when partner sponsors post new job opportunity listings based off their location and job type preferences. For example, if an app user set their location preference to New York City and their job opportunity preference to Internship they would receive a segmented push notification when a sponsor posts a new internship job in NYC.
We used the WP Job Manager Resume CPT and the WordPress REST API to drive the app user profile fields. When a mobile app user logs in build their resume as they fill out their member profile.
WP Jobs Manager Intergration
The AppPresser Custom Mobile App Development Team worked with and extended the WP Job Manager WordPress plugin to integrate with our custom built iOS and Android apps. Job listings are listed in the DSY mobile app based on app user preferences for the types of jobs they are interested in.
Learning from Leaders Luncheon
On Wednesday, December 4th, over 300 business leaders got together to celebrate and raise support for the Development School for Youth (DSY) at the annual Learning from Leaders Luncheon. The WordPress powered mobile app that AppPresser built was showcased at the event during the lunch.
The Connected Community Website and Mobile app are powered by WordPress and hosted on WP Engine, a managed WordPress hosting platform that is super fast and reliable.
