Introducing AppPresser
In 2012, Matt Mullenweg gave his 2012 State of the Word presentation at WordCamp San Francisco. In it, he mentioned that WordPress was moving towards being an application platform. In 2013, Matt, again, gave his State of the Word presentation, and again he mentioned that the future of WordPress was as an application platform.
“It was on this very stage, a few years ago, when we first introduced the concept of WordPress as an application platform… 2003-2007 was WordPress as a blog, 2008-2012 was WordPress as a CMS and 2012 onward, for the next 5 year trend, will be WordPress as an application platform as the dominant thing”
– Matt Mullenweg, co-founder of WordPress: State of the Word 2013
He showcased applications privately developed, by WebDevStudios, for clients like the YMCA and Dallas Museum of Art. That was the beginning of WordPress as a framework for native mobile apps. Now, 6 months later, We are so excited to announce the future of WordPress that Matt was talking about is HERE and it’s YOUR turn to build a mobile app with WordPress.
The power of building native mobile apps with WordPress is now in your hands.
We are happy to announce the official public release of AppPresser that offers you an easy way to create a real app from the ground up, using native device hardware like the camera, using only WordPress.
After several months of planning, dreaming and extremely hard work by our team, we are excited to release the worlds first mobile app development framework for WordPress.
Create with WordPress – distribute to the app stores.
If you know how to create a web site in WordPress, you now know how to create a mobile application. Design your app and customize it the same way you build a normal WordPress site. Our themes and extensions add app functionality to WordPress, so you can use awesome app-like features like sliding panels, modal windows, ajax, panel menus, and much more!
The AppPresser Core plugin is available for free download, and you can find a variety of extensions to add native app features on our site. Unlike any other product, AppPresser allows you to tap into device hardware such as the camera, contacts, geolocation, notifications, with AppPresser extensions such as:
AppTheme is an AppAware theme for WordPress
A theme built to look and behave like a native mobile app. Not just a responsive theme, it is an AppAware Theme – a framework for making a WordPress site that works like an app.
The AppPresser theme uses mobile app design conventions seen across many different types of apps. That means it can be used for many different types of applications, such as ECommerce, music, real estate, etc. The layout adapts responsively to a tablet and mobile phone view (and everything in between) so it always looks great.
Design in WordPress
Design your app and customize it the same way you build a normal WordPress site. No objective C, Java or SDK knowledge necessary.
Customize & Extend
Use our plugins and themes to make WordPress look and behave like a native app. Use sliding panels, menus, and tap into device hardware.
Sell in App Stores (iOS & Android)
Send us your app to package it for the native app stores for iOS, Android, & more. Let people all over the world download and use your app!
What App Will You Build?
So, go forth and create apps! During our beta period, we saw some very interesting apps created using AppPresser + WordPress. We are so excited to see what you will do with AppPresser and cannot wait to see your apps in the app stores soon!
This is awesome! I’m looking forward to getting in there and getting my hands dirty!
Thanks for putting together such a great tool for WordPress developers. I’m looking for an excuse to build an iOS app now just so I can play with it. 🙂
Hi, congrats AppPresser Team.
There is only one thing which I need to understand: How does the Step 3 above (Send us your app to package it for the native app stores for iOS, Android, & more.) work in practice – is there a tutorial for that and secondly, how much does it cost.
Hi, thank you! You can find pricing and more information on the app build here http://apppresser.com/extensions/appbuild/
[…] AppPresser was released 2 months ago and we’re very happy with it’s success and reception so far. Because AppPresser is such an innovative product for WordPress, and the idea of using WordPress to build native mobile apps is fairly new – we realize that there would be questions and clarifications to be made on what it is, and what it is not. We welcome your questions and feedback – just hit us up on our contact form, we’re happy to engage with you to provide answers to your burning questions. […]
