Important News About AppPresser 3 Apps and the Apple App Store

Recently Apple announced that they were deprecating a component called the UIWebview, used widely amongst app developers. The specific error is ITMS-90809: Deprecated API Usage, which you may have seen before.

Their announcement stated that they would no longer accept new apps to the app store starting in April 2020, and updates to existing apps in December 2020.

AppPresser 3 uses the UIWebview, which means that you will not be able to submit new AppPresser 3 apps starting April 1st, 2020. If you already have an app in the app store, you can still submit updates until December 2020.

Apple has not said that they will remove apps from the app store. If you do not plan to update your AppPresser 3 app, you do not need to take any action.

After these deadlines, you must use AppPresser 4.

What This Means For You

If you have an app under development right now, you either need to submit it before April, or update to AppPresser 4.

If you already have an app in the app stores, you have plenty of time. You can still submit updates until the end of the year, then you need to update to AppPresser 4 if you want to update.

In summary:

  • The only people who need to hurry are those who have an app ready right now. Just submit it as soon as possible, before April 1st.
  • Everyone else can take their time updating to AppPresser 4.
  • If you do not plan to update your AppPresser 3 app, you do not need to take any action. It will remain in the app store.

When Will AppPresser 4 Be Ready?

We are running through some final testing, we are hoping to allow beta testers in before the end February. Keep in mind, if you are updating to AppPresser 4 there is no rush.

There are no deadlines for AppPresser 4 apps.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes you. Apple’s announcement is one of the reasons we’ve been furiously working to release AppPresser 4, which we know you’ll love.

Hi, I have a problem now, 18 february
I receive this message from APPLE

    “Dear Developer,

We identified one or more issues with a recent delivery for your app, “——————-” 100 (1.0.0). Your delivery was successful, but you may wish to correct the following issues in your next delivery:

ITMS-90809: Deprecated API Usage – Apple will stop accepting submissions of apps that use UIWebView APIs . See https://developer.apple.com/documentation/uikit/uiwebview for more information.

After you’ve corrected the issues, you can upload a new binary to App Store Connect.”

      “Your delivery was successful”

That is just a warning, your app was delivered successfully.

Hi, just started building an app which relies heavily on content served up by WordPress via the iframe functionality in the app (sometimes using appp_bypass=true), which I guess relies on this UIwebview?

Will apppresser 4 have any limitations as a result to this limitation that could get in the way? Nervous to continue building and launching our app by April if, for example, after December we will need to use the WordPress rest API much more intensely instead of iframe. Hope that made sense, thanks in advance!

Hi Joel, you can still use iframe pages in version 4, so no need to worry. Make sure to get your app submitted asap, because the review process can take a couple weeks in some cases.
