Boys & Girls Club of Whittier – Building Bright Futures for Local Youth
A custom mobile app that makes it easier for families to stay informed, register for programs, and stay connected to youth development opportunities year-round.
We partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Whittier to develop a custom mobile app designed to connect families with the club's year-round programming. Serving kids aged 6 to 18, the club provides a safe and supportive space where kids can build academic skills and lead healthy lives.
This project focused on creating a fully integrated iOS and Android mobile experience that reflects the mission of the club while improving communication, access, and usability for both staff and families. From program details and digital registration to real-time updates and announcements, we built the app to function as a mobile hub for the community the club serves.
Designed for Daily Use by Parents, Staff, and Club Members
We developed the Boys and Girls Club of Whittier app using the AppPresser hybrid app framework, powered by WordPress. This means that all content like events, program descriptions, forms, news, and more is managed directly in the WordPress dashboard. The native app provides an optimized experience on mobile devices, and users are greeted with a clean, well-structured interface that makes it easy to find exactly what they need. The home screen highlights key categories like Programs, Calendar, and Announcements. Push notifications ensure parents never miss important updates, and the events calendar keeps everyone informed about upcoming activities, club closures, or seasonal deadlines.
We designed the Events tab to include full listings with dates, times, locations, and a “copy address” tool for navigation. Major programs like the 50th Gala and Auction are featured prominently and updated in real time. The News section includes community highlights and club announcements while the Contact tab gives users quick access to the main clubhouse location, phone number, email, and an embedded contact form.
Mobile App Features Built for Impact
The mobile app includes a set of features built around how families interact with the club every day. Whether they’re checking for holiday closures, filling out forms, or looking up locations, everything is organized so it’s easy to find and use. We kept the design straightforward with quick access to the tools parents use most and content that’s always current. The Interactive Events Calendar shows upcoming programs, school breaks, and registration deadlines in a clean, scrollable view that stays up to date through WordPress. Announcements and push notifications give staff a way to reach families quickly whether it’s a last-minute closure or a reminder about an event. Families can also browse program information by age groups with clear listings that show which sessions are available by grade level, along with details like times, locations, and benefits.
Registration has been simplified too with digital registration, meaning families can complete everything on their phone with no printing and no extra steps. The locations map helps users find any of the 30+ club sites in Whittier, Pico Rivera, and surrounding areas, complete with Google Maps integration and filters by city or program type. The app also features a news and community spotlights tab to share updates, highlight members and staff, and celebrate milestones. And for anyone looking to get involved, there’s a full section for Volunteer and Career Opportunities, including mentorship programs, staff roles, and special events.

We built the Boys and Girls Club of Whittier app as a fully native mobile experience on a WordPress foundation using AppPresser’s development tools. Content updates, layout changes, and new features can all be managed through the WordPress dashboard, giving staff full control without needing to write custom code or rely on external developers. The app connects directly to the site’s backend through the WordPress REST API, so any change made in WordPress syncs automatically to the mobile experience.
For staff, this setup streamlines communication and simplifies internal workflows. News and notifications only need to be published once to reach families and instead of managing multiple tools, everything runs through a single, familiar system. Paired with the AppPresser Visual Builder, the team can manage screens, menus, and UI components easily while maintaining full control of branding and functionality.
The app gives the Boys and Girls Club of Whittier a flexible, future-ready tool that fits their day-to-day needs. It’s built to support their mission, grow with their programs, and keep families connected every step of the way.
