BlackFriday.de helps shoppers in Germany “find the best Black Friday deals quickly and easily in one app.” Most retailers only reveal their Black Friday offers shortly before the big day, so the app is constantly updated with new deals as they are released. Built with AppPresser, it is free on iPhone and Android and has been downloaded more than 50,000 times on Google Play.
In this featured app spotlight, we take a closer look at the team behind BlackFriday.de, what the app does, who it serves, and why it is such a strong example of what happens when a WordPress site and a mobile app work together.
Who Is Behind BlackFriday.de
BlackFriday.de calls itself Germany’s longest running Black Friday portal, collecting the best deals of the year since 2012. It is a project of Gall Marketing GmbH in Oberhausen, and it was founded in January 2012 by marketing expert Simon Gall, who still runs it as managing director. Black Friday began as an American tradition, and by 2011 a growing number of German retailers were running scattered Black Friday promotions with no single place for shoppers to see them all. Inspired by American portals like BlackFriday.com, Gall launched Black-Friday-2012.de, the first German Black Friday portal, and moved it to a permanent domain the following year.
The portal grew quickly. By its own account, it listed deals from about 200 German shops in 2014 and welcomed more than 300,000 unique visitors over Black Friday weekend. Visits climbed to almost one million in 2015 and 2.5 million in 2018, when it listed promotions from more than 450 retailers. In 2019 it expanded to Austria and Switzerland, presenting offers from more than 800 shops across the German speaking region, and introduced the short domain BF.de. Its newsletter now reaches more than 150,000 subscribers.
BlackFriday.de is also known for standing up for the name of the shopping day itself. When a Hong Kong company holding a German trademark on “Black Friday” began sending warning letters to retailers in 2016, BlackFriday.de fought back in several proceedings, and after years of litigation through the German courts, the trademark was ordered fully cancelled in 2023 and removed from the register in August 2024. The company launched its smartphone app for Black Friday 2021, and it is online at blackfriday.de.
What the BlackFriday.de App Does
The BlackFriday.de app puts the whole portal in a shopper’s pocket, in German. A bottom bar switches between Countdown, Deals and Shops, and because the deals come from the BlackFriday.de WordPress site, new offers appear in the app as soon as the team publishes them.
Here are the main areas the app covers:
- A Black Friday countdown that ticks down the days, hours, minutes and seconds to the big day.
- Newsletter sign up so shoppers can get the best deals by email before they are gone.
- Deals at a glance, a running list of the latest offers with a brand image and a short headline.
- Top Shops, a grid of well known retailers with a button for each shop’s deals.
- Categories for every interest, from contracts and cars to beauty, books, computers, fashion and football.
- New deals and all deals views, so returning shoppers can see what has just been added.
- Detailed deal pages with discount codes and a button that goes straight to the store.
- Push notifications, if shoppers want them, for new deals and promotions.
What makes BlackFriday.de distinctive is its timing. Black Friday deals are released in a rush, often just days or hours before the event, and an app is the fastest way to follow that flood. With a countdown on the first tab and push notifications ready, the app turns a busy website into a tool shoppers can keep open all through Black Week.

Test Drive the App
The best way to understand BlackFriday.de is to try it. Download the free app, check the countdown, browse a category you care about, and turn on notifications so you do not miss the next big deal.
Key Features That Stand Out
The Countdown
The first tab opens with a big Black Friday countdown that shows exactly how many days, hours, minutes and seconds remain. Below it, shoppers can sign up for the newsletter so the best deals arrive by email. It builds excitement and gives shoppers a reason to come back every day.
Deals at a Glance
The Deals tab lists the latest offers in one scrolling feed, each with a brand image, the retailer’s name and a short headline. In the screenshots, that includes a HUGO BOSS Black Friday event, an OTTO sale with thousands of reduced prices and Black Week deals from Vodafone, Huawei and bofrost. Shoppers can scan dozens of offers in a minute.
Top Shops
Top Shops gathers well known retailers in one place, including HUGO BOSS, OTTO, bofrost, Dyson, Vodafone and Huawei, each with a button to see its deals. A short note at the top reminds shoppers when Black Friday falls and that hundreds of retailers will be taking part. It is ideal for people who already know which stores they want to watch.
Find Your Category
A slide out menu offers All Deals, All Shops, New Deals and a long list of categories, from Abos and Verträge to Auto and Motorrad, Baby, Beauty, Bücher, Computer, Fashion and Fußball. Each category narrows the list to the offers that match. It helps shoppers find exactly the deal they are looking for.
Straight to the Shop
Every deal opens to its own page with a photo, the details of the offer and any discount code. In one example, a PUMA Black Friday weekend deal explains the code and the 30 percent discount, then offers a Zum Store button. One tap takes the shopper directly to the retailer to buy.

Who BlackFriday.de Serves
BlackFriday.de is built first for shoppers in Germany who want to make the most of Black Friday and Black Week. Instead of visiting dozens of store websites, they can see deals from many retailers in one place and decide where to spend.
It is especially useful for dedicated bargain hunters. Because offers are released shortly before the event and can sell out quickly, the countdown, the New Deals list and push notifications help them act fast when a great price appears.
The app also serves retailers. Shops can report deals to BlackFriday.de, and the portal’s large audience and app give them a direct way to reach people who are ready to buy. For brands taking part in Black Friday, the app is one more place to be seen during the busiest shopping season of the year.
Technology Behind the App
BlackFriday.de is powered by its own WordPress site, blackfriday.de.
The app is built from WordPress, and WordPress drives it. Deals are published on the WordPress site, and AppPresser carries that content straight into the app, so updates made on the site show up in the app without a separate system to manage.
Looking at the site itself, these are the platforms behind the experience:
WordPress, the foundation for the deals site. WordPress is the open source content management system that powers more websites than any other platform. A custom BlackFriday theme, built for the site. Newsletter, for email. Newsletter is a WordPress email plugin. AppPresser, which turns the WordPress site into the mobile app. AppPresser is a mobile app builder that creates native iOS and Android apps from a WordPress site.
What BlackFriday.de Shows About AppPresser
BlackFriday.de runs its website on WordPress, and the app shows how AppPresser can power a high traffic, seasonal deals app. The team publishes offers once, on the site, and they flow into the app automatically, which matters when hundreds of deals go live in a few days.
It also shows how AppPresser works in any language. Every screen, category and deal in the BlackFriday.de app is in German, and the app serves its audience as naturally as any English language app does.
And it shows how an app can extend a well known brand. BlackFriday.de had spent nearly a decade building its portal before launching the app, and AppPresser let it bring that audience to their phones with push notifications, a countdown and a clean, focused design.
Congratulations to Simon Gall and the BlackFriday.de team at Gall Marketing on building an app that more than 50,000 shoppers have downloaded. We are proud to have AppPresser behind it.
